Alpha Hires a New Executive Director PDF Print E-mail

September 7, 2010

As you know, Prudence Humber, our executive director for the last 23 years, is retiring at the end of September. Alpha’s board of directors is pleased to announce that after a long search we have found a replacement: Karen L. Hess.

Karen will join Alpha on September 20. Passionately pro-life for more than 30 years, Karen participated in the March for Life, the Life Chain public awareness demonstrations and most recently has served as director of development for Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Center in suburban Philadelphia.

Karen and her husband of twenty-eight years have four grown children. They enjoy serving the Lord in their local church, Bethany Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Havertown. Karen homeschooled her children through middle school (and two into high school!), founded the TEACH

homeschool co-op, provided other leadership to the homeschool community and taught hands-on science classes. An experienced fundraiser who has worked for several local non-profits, Karen is excited to employ her numerous gifts and talents at Alpha.

“When I was a young wife and mother, the Lord made it clear to me that He values each and every person from their moment of conception until their last breath. Grasping the reality that every individual is inherently valuable, unique and made in God’s image has guided me throughout every phase of my life. Unfortunately, many people don’t yet understand how precious human life is. Consequently, in our city nearly 15,000 lives are ended by abortion each year. With great expectation, I am pleased to be joining the dedicated team at Alpha and the churches that stand with them to spread the Truth and uphold the pro-life banner in Philadelphia.”

We, the board of directors, are thankful to God for Prudence’s many years of faithful service with Alpha. And we eagerly anticipate what the Lord will do for us through Karen.
