Alpha Pregnancy Services started a fun campaign to raise $15,000 in January in conjunction with Sanctity of Human Life Month. They called it "The City Needs Change." It’s a simple concept that generates meaningful results with each baby bottle filled with spare change. Churches, Bible study groups, and Sunday School classes can all participate to help Alpha provide its free services to clients. Each quarter, nickel, and dime add up to hope for a mom and her precious little one.
I had the privilege to coordinate one of the efforts at my church in the city. We all know that finances are hard and most do not have a lot of funds to spare. But most of us do have spare change to empty out of our pockets at the end of a day. It feels good to be able to do a little and have it go a long way to helping others. Our little church filled baby bottles for a month and was able to fill 40 baby bottles with change, cash, and checks. This fundraiser is great because everyone is able to get involved. One mom told me that her four year old daughter heard that the change was for other children who were in need and she emptied her entire piggy bank into the bottle their family was filling.
Alpha is very thankful for the $7,500 that has come in through this campaign to date. Thanks to the following churches who have participated so far: Berachah Church, Broomall RPC, Canaan Baptist Church, Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Mt. Laurel, Lawndale Baptist Church, Liberti Church Center City, Nazarene Baptist Church, New Greenwich Light Baptist, Olney Baptist Church, Rhawnhurst Presbyterian Church, Tenth Presbyterian Church, Triumph Baptist Church, Village Presbyterian Church. Even though January has come and gone, they are continuing to seek churches or other groups willing to join the effort to reach $15,000. You would be amazed how much money you can raise in coins. One Primary Class of first through third graders used the baby bottles as their mission project for two months and collected over $300. Please consider joining us.
