July 29, 2010 Giving a Baby Shower for Alpha Imagine that you have a friend who is in her eighth month of pregnancy, but doesn’t have a stitch of clothing for the baby. Furthermore, she doesn’t know how in the world she will be able to afford all the things she needs. You want her to know that God will provide for her and her child. As a tangible demonstration of God’s provision, you decide to throw a baby shower for her. This is just what many of our Alpha mothers need. In this case, there will not be a particular mother who gets all the gifts, rather many mothers will share the gifts that come from one party. Also, in this case, Alpha would be happy to send a representative to share information about our work with all of your guests. Because of the sensitive nature of our clients’ situations, we do not bring clients to showers. - Set a Date, Time, and Place
If you would like a speaker from Alpha, call the office so that we can assure a staff member for your shower. We usually need 1 ½ to 2 months advance notice. - Invite Guests
You decide whether it will be your Sunday School class, Women’s Group, family, friends, or neighbors. - What to Bring
Baby Basics are our greatest need. This includes newborn size undershirts, sleepers, receiving blankets, crib blankets, pacifiers, bassinet and crib sheets, lap pads, bibs, burp cloths, sweater-bonnet-booty sets, outfits, handmade items, diapers, diaper bags, bottles, rattles, lotion, oil, baby bath, and wipes. These items may be either new or used and clean-and-in-good-condition. - Wrapping
Since we need to know the size and type of item, gifts should either be put in gift bags, boxes with just the top wrapped, or just left unwrapped. - Program and Food
As noted above, we will be happy to provide a speaker. You may also want to have some creative games and food. Plan for an enjoyable evening celebrating God’s gift of life.
